Job Description

We're hiring a Quality Control (QC) Chemist to join our Quality Department! This role reports to Quality Manager located at Baton Rouge, LA. The primary function of the QC Chemist is developing new testing procedures and improving existing testing procedures with the goal of improving testing efficiency, accuracy, precision, and repeatability.

Responsibilities

  • Takes leadership role in the assurance of safe laboratory operations and maintain quality of data generated. 
  • Resolves quality issues including instrument reliability, accuracy, precision, turnaround time, capability, and value.
  • Provide technical support and repair on analytical instruments owned by the Quality department such as Karl Fischer and other titrators, GC, HPLC, UV-Vis, Laser Particle Size Analyzer, and benchtop NMR.
  • Works with the Analytical/PT group to develop new or improved analytical methods or new methodologies. 
  • Assists users of analytical data (Management, technicians, and production) with the interpretation of the analytical results.
  • Participate in RCFA for plant quality events.
  • Assists Lab Coordinator in training of QC Technicians to ensure they work in a safe and competent manner.
  • Other special QC projects and duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry with 5 years’ experience in a production laboratory environment, or, Master’s degree in Chemistry with 2 years’ experience in a production or laboratory environment.
  • Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and interface with Engineers, Chemists, Technicians and Operators to ensure smooth Laboratory and plant operations.
  • An understanding and experience in a variety of analytical techniques.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience of analytical instruments.
  • Attention to details and ability to be on-call when needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to polyolefin catalyst and polymer chemistry.
  • Familiarity with LIMS, SAP, Ariba and Minitab .
