Job Description
Situated in Curtis Bay, Maryland, the Senior Technician Specialist reports to Lead Technician in the Advanced Refining Technologies (ART) hydroprocessing catalyst joint venture. This role supports R&D and Process Technology (PT) groups in the safe and efficient development of new and improved products and processes. This is an on-site position requiring hands-on work in both laboratory and pilot plant environments.
Responsibilities
- Prepare catalysts and related intermediates through the operation of various bench and pilot-scale equipment and processes
- Safely handle, store and transport chemicals including potentially hazardous chemicals
- Maintain a safe and orderly workspace
- Record experimental results and data in a clear and organized fashion
- Communicate work progress and challenges, safety concerns and other pertinent feedback with supervisor and other colleagues on a regular basis
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining alignment with business goals
- Provide support during manufacturing trials and during other non-standard sample preparation.
- Ensure equipment is in sound operating condition, input maintenance notifications, ensure equipment is ready for maintenance and verify maintenance completion
- Abide by all safety and EHS initiatives including but not limited to: SWAs, JSAs, CLS permits, PHAs, MOCs, RCAs and PSSRs
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
Required Qualifications
- Strong commitment to safety
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Mechanical aptitude for equipment set-up and minor maintenance
- Self-directed and able to work independently and collaboratively
- Professional and positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Basic familiarity with computer software such as Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
- High School diploma with at least 5 years of relevant laboratory, manufacturing, or skilled trade experience

- Associates degree or two years of college with course work in chemistry, engineering and math
- Chemical or Industrial Engineering a plus
