Job Description
WR Grace is a leading Manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals and is seeking a Sr. Chemist for the Analytical Services Center at our Baltimore/Curtis Bay, MD Plant.
Responsibilities
- Supervises and develops a team of 5-10 technicians; may also have indirect reports.
- Performs chemical analyses and scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards.
- Responsible and held accountable for compliance with all Critical Life Safety Policies, Environmental, Health and Safety training, policies and procedures.
- Active leadership in multiple safety programs, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment
- Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples.
- Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic advanced computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines.
- Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies. Provides technical support to customers as applicable by lab area.
- Demonstrates a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Ensure analytical data and services meet internal and external customer needs and expectations, including customer visits and audits.
- Developing a multi-discipline team to support the ASC
- Makes a significant contribution to the development of the ASC with a focus on efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Supports a cadence of Best Practices shared among sister sites.
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or higher in Chemistry or related scientific fields require
- Prior experience in laboratory environment required.
- Will typically have at least 3-6 years related technical experience
- 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a laboratory environment required
- Cross functional technical expertise in laboratory environment required
- Work with a cross-functional team to deliver method updates and improvements through Management of Change.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong safety focus. Holds safety as a top priority while working in a team setting.
- The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with advanced knowledge in chemistry, math, and computers.
- Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Minitab. Self-direction and the ability to work according to priorities are necessary.
- Strong written and oral communications skills along with computer experience are important.
- Has intermediate to advanced skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process.
- Displays strong Grace leadership behaviors.
- Results-focused with strong project management skills.
- Demonstrates consistent commitment and driving improvement to KPI’s
- Demonstrates solid understanding of cross functional laboratory techniques
