Job Description
Sr Technician Specialist Research & Development (R&D)
Grace is hiring a Sr Technician Specialist Research & Development (R&D) to join Grace’s industry leading hydroprocessing catalyst business, Advanced Refining Technologies (ART).
The Sr Technician Specialist contributes to laboratory experiments and pilot scale processes led by the R&D and Process Technology engineers. They have a unique hands-on opportunity supporting the development of new and improved products and processes.
The Sr Technician Specialist is located in Curtis Bay, MD and reports to the ART Lead Technician.
Schedule: Monday - Friday with limited nights, weekends, and holidays; the business need for this coverage has been very minimal.
Responsibilities
- Operate lab and pilot scale equipment such as spray dryers, mixers, extruders and calciners to prepare catalyst. Submit samples for analytical analysis.
- Safely store and handle potentially hazardous chemicals.
- Record and communicate experimental results in a clear, organized manner.
- Maintain a safe and orderly workspace.
- Provide support during manufacturing trials and other non-standard campaigns.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained by recognizing concerns, entering SAP work orders and following their status to completion.
- Abide by and participate in EHS&S rules and initiatives including permitting, inspections and other activities.
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma and 12+ years laboratory, manufacturing or skilled trade experience OR
- Associate’s and 10+ laboratory, manufacturing or skill trade experience OR
- Bachelor’s in a non-chemical study and 5+ laboratory, manufacturing or skilled trade experience OR
- Bachelor’s in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
- Demonstrated experience leveraging mechanical aptitude plus experience setting up equipment and minor maintenance/repair.
- Demonstrated experience to a personal and professional commitment to safety
- Experience working independently and collaboratively
- Able to lift up to 40 pounds without assistance and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using software such as Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and SAP
