Job Description

As the Quality Engineer (QE) in our Curtis Bay, MD facility, you will be responsible for product disposition, driving product quality and customer performance improvements, and support of the Quality Management system.   The QE will perform product disposition activities in a timely fashion to support shipment and inventory business requirements.  The QE will provide a presence on the production floor to champion quality, and partner closely with Production Engineers to interpret process results and correlate to product test results; Furthermore, the QE will interact closely with the production laboratory and Chemists to prioritize testing, drive deviation investigations, and assure integrity in test results, in order to achieve tangible results in alignment with business goals.

Duties and Responsibilities include:   

  • Perform product disposition activities in a timely fashion to support shipment and inventory business requirements and to assure CoA availability.   
  • Drive continuous improvement of our quality KPI metrics.    
  • Lead investigations for cross-functional teams; use & apply continuous improvement tools to determine root cause and CAPA plans; and perform CAPA verification activities. 
  • Be a presence on the production floor in order to maintain awareness of conformance to all customer expectations, including fit-for-use, instrumentation, and packaging & labeling, & to assure that the voice of the Chemical Operator is represented in all CAPA activities.  
  • Interface with the Grace technical community to help with the understanding of technical product challenges; and assure alignment between product quality attributes and capability (cpk) to both Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) & Process-Control Plans (PCP).     
  • Ensure that the plant meets ISO requirements (and GMP where applicable).  
  • Participate in the internal quality system audit team.   
  • Act as the interface between suppliers and Production in order to drive supplier quality.
  • Act as the interface between the Lab and Production, drive high integrity test results via operational excellence in lab, potentially through round-robin testing with other labs as appropriate.  
  • Perform key duties within the MOC system, including responsibility for Gatekeeper role.     
  • This position supports the site Quality Assurance Manager for the Quality Management System (QMS) and the Document Management System (DMS), Supplier audit programs, as well as hosting of customer and third-party audits.

Required Skills

  • Able to maintain focus on Safety & Environmental requirement in all activities and wear requisite PPE 
  • Ability to learn processes quickly, and make data driven decisions and implement recommendations, with an understanding of SPC being a key skill.    
  • Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and changing priorities, lead and/or participate on cross-functional teams and troubleshoot quality problems.    
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and strong organizational and prioritization skills, and the proven ability to lead and influence others are critical for success. 

Required Experience

  • BS Degree in Engineering.  Alternative STEM degrees may be considered with appropriate work history.
  • At least 1-5 years of experience in a Quality and/or Operations-related role

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chemical Industry experience
  • Six-Sigma and Lean experience
  • Training / background in ISO 9001:2015, including performing audits
  • An ASQ CQE and/or CQA certification
