Job Description

Grace is seeking a Subject Matter Expert/Principal Technology Engineer working in the Process Technology group, focused on the Advanced Refining Technology (ART) business.  The full-time salary role will report to the Director of Process Technology for ART, located in Curtis Bay, MD.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Process Technology and manufacturing expertise to the Global Operations to optimize the production capability of the internal plant locations and external toll manufacturers.
  • Develop manufacturing strategies to align business/financial objectives with overall network capabilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with the R&D, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams for the introduction of new products and new plant process capabilities.
  • Develop innovative solutions to complex manufacturing problems leveraging specific product line capabilities.
  • Project planning and execution to drive initiatives from concept to commercialization, including start up and successful transfer to manufacturing.  Scale-up from development/lab equipment to full scale manufacturing
  • Apply sound engineering principles, Lean Six Sigma methodology and manufacturing experience to ensure safe, environmentally responsible processes that meet the quality/cost goals of the organization.
  •  Develop and execute experiments to determine the effect of processing variables on product properties and performance.
  • Provide necessary technical support for Process Design, Fungibility and Capital projects.
  • Identify applicable state of the art instrumentation, equipment, and alternate process technology to upgrade the capability of manufacturing processes.
  • Serve as a key process consultant to the technical and management staff of the product line including on trends and developments in specific area of expertise.
  • Mentor junior professionals within ART Process Technology and Operations organizations
  • Communicate projects updates, progress, risks, options, barriers and recommendations, effectively to technical and non-technical audience.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials

Required Qualifications

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry or Material Science with a minimum of twelve years’ experience in a R&D or Manufacturing role with particular emphasis on Hydroprocessing catalyst development or commercialization. 
  • Strong background in chemistry and engineering fundamentals. Candidate must be able to apply fundamental engineering concepts to develop robust technical solutions for implementation in commercial manufacturing operation.
  • Extensive experience in comparable large-scale manufacturing is a requirement.
  • Proven experience leading Lean Six Sigma projects including demonstrated skills utilizing statistical techniques.
  • Strong Project Management Skills, ability to successfully handle multiple projects using self-directed work management style.
  • Ability to lead and work in cross functional teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Process Design, Engineering, Pilot Plant, Product Management, Sales) to drive project results.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An ability to view project goals and execution plans in a tactical and strategic perspective.  Contribute to short and long term strategies for the manufacturing network. 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply Statistical techniques (DOE, Regression, ANOVA, SPC, Hypothesis Test, Process Capability Studies) for process development and process improvement.
  • An established and well-respected technology leader with the proven ability to form strong working relationships across manufacturing sites.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, scale-up, improve, troubleshoot and transfer new processes to manufacturing.
  • Strong bias for action with a natural curiosity and ability to learn.
