Job Description

W. R. Grace & Co. a leading manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals is seeking an Operations Supervisor to work at its Curtis Bay facility. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operation and safety of its employees during both day and night shift. All employees are expected to work safely. Each employee has environment, health and safety roles and responsibilities. The employee is required to participate in achieving compliance with our EHS Policies including, but not limited to, emergency preparedness and response as defined in site-wide and local area documentation. Maintenance employees are responsible for safely, effectively, and efficiently servicing and maintaining a variety of process systems equipment and overall plant infrastructure.

  • Directly supervises employees in the specialty chemicals manufacturing setting.
  • Assure regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety, and a safe workplace for all employees.  Address hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Analyzes production to estimate worker hours and create production schedules that meet both internal and external needs.
  • Responsible for start-up, shutdown and normal process operation to include manual operation of the process using field controls.
  • Directs response to emergency situations to include emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Coaches and counsels operations personnel in the assignment of duties.
  • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Directs workers in adjusting equipment and processes to correct products which fail to meet quality standards..
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by performing requisite audits.
  • Complete all regulatory testing and conduct safety meetings for operations personnel as required.
  • Enter SAP notifications as required for maintenance.
  • Inform operations personnel of planned maintenance by action as a liaison between maintenance and operations through effective communication.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Must be able to work 12 hour shift work to include both days, nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Previous experience with performance appraisal performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and conflict resolution.

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3+ year’s supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
