Job Description

W. R. Grace & Co. a leading manufacturer of catalysts, engineered materials and fine chemicals is seeking an Operations Supervisor to work at its Curtis Bay facility. This position will be responsible for overseeing the operation and safety of its employees during both day and night shift.

 

The Operations Supervisor leads a team and ensures the safe and efficient operation of assets, equipment and processes. Ensures leadership and guidance provided to team members is aligned with mission, vision and strategy. Works with assigned team members to ensure timely operations of assets using safe work processes and procedures.

 

All employees at the Curtis Bay Site are expected to work safely and everyone has environment, health and safety roles and responsibilities. The Supervisor participatea in achieving compliance with our EHS Policies including, but not limited to, emergency preparedness and response as defined in site-wide and local area documentation. 

 

The schedule for this role is 12 hour rotating shifts which may include days, nights, holidays and weekends.

Schedule: 12-hour, rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays, and weekends.

1. Week 1: 4 consecutive night shifts, then 3 days off

2. Week 2: 3 regular day shifts, off for 1 day, then 3 night shifts

3. Week 3: 3 days off, then 4 consecutive day shifts

 

Curtis Bay is a 24/7 365 day Union manufacturing site.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees to ensure the safe and efficient operation of assets, equipment and processes. 
  • Assure regulatory compliance, including environmental and process safety, and champions a safe workplace for all employees. 
  • Address hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Direct response to emergency situations to include emergency shutdown procedures.
  • Interface with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
  • Direct workers in adjusting equipment and processes to correct products which fail to meet quality standards.
  • Coach, counsel and discipline employees, address complaints and and resolve conflicts.
  • Interpret various sets of data and determine how to resolve/troubleshoot complex equipment/systems
  • Maintain housekeeping standards by performing requisite audits.
  • Analyze and resolve production issues to include enforcing labor relation's policies and resolving grievances.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 5+ year’s supervisory experience in a chemical manufacturing setting.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shift work to include both day and night.
  • Demonstrated experience with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Previous experience with performance appraisal performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and conflict resolution.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
