Job Description

We are seeking an Operations Supervisor for our Additives Plant at the Curtis Bay site in Baltimore, MD Reporting directly to the Operations Manager. The schedule for this role is 12 hour rotating shifts which may include days, nights, holidays and weekends. 

 

The Operations Supervisor will focus on achieving compliance with our Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies, including emergency preparedness and response as outlined in site-wide and local area documentation. Maintenance employees under this role are responsible for safely, effectively, and efficiently servicing and maintaining a variety of process systems equipment and the overall plant infrastructure.

 

The Curtis Bay plant, located in Baltimore, Maryland, is W. R. Grace’s largest manufacturing site. Operational since the early 1900s, this facility spans approximately 260 acres and employs around 700 people. The plant produces a variety of chemical products, including fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, hydroprocessing catalysts, polyolefin catalysts, and silicas. These products are essential in industries such as fuel, plastics, food, beverages, biofuels, coatings, and pharmaceuticals.

 

 

Schedule: 12-hour, rotating shifts including days and nights, holidays, and weekends.

1. Week 1: 4 consecutive night shifts, then 3 days off

2. Week 2: 3 regular day shifts, off for 1 day, then 3 night shifts

3. Week 3: 3 days off, then 4 consecutive day shifts

4. Week 4: 7 days off

Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards; identify and resolve hazards.
  • Supervise, coach, and counsel operations personnel in their duties.
  • Assist in training development, collaborate with the training department, and execute training as directed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and develop a Housekeeping Program to ensure minimum standards are met.
  • Enter SAP notifications for maintenance and participate in the maintenance planning process.
  • Coordinate with Production and Maintenance Planning to ensure equipment availability and timely completion of scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Act as a liaison between maintenance and operations, informing personnel of planned maintenance and assisting with preparations for maintenance outages.
  • Work with Technical Support to evaluate and enhance the Preventive Maintenance program and address downtime causation.
  • Serve as “Gatekeeper” for all planned, outage, and safety-related work notifications, as well as for production and maintenance supplies and inventories.
  • Update and develop new work instructions and “Zero Energy” instructions.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and equipment use to increase department efficiency.
  • Manage project work and major overhauls on behalf of the Shift Supervisor and serve as the first-line operational representative on RCFA’s associated with the Unit.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

Required Qualifications

 

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • 3+ year’s supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must be able to work 12-hour shift work to include both days, nights and weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Previous experience with appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and conflict resolution.

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
