Job Description
We are hiring an Industrial Mechanic reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor at our Curtis Bay plant in Baltimore, MD! This position will be responsible for supporting the plant’s mechanical maintenance program, playing a critical role in reactive and preventative maintenance.
Schedule: 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday including the ability to work overtime and holidays as required.
Responsibilities
- Work on rotating industrial and mechanical equipment and components; mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, fuel, lubrication, cooling, and exhaust systems. Components worked on include pumps, mechanical seals, gearboxes, fans, blowers, vacuum pumps, compressors, conveyors, presses, etc.
- Responsible for assembling, installing, aligning, commissioning, maintaining, repairing, diagnosing, inspecting, dismantling, moving, and decommissioning equipment. Servicing includes diagnosing irregularities and malfunctions, adjusting, and repairing or replacing parts. Cleaning and lubricating equipment are also included in maintenance tasks.
- Refer to schematics, engineered drawings, and manuals, both hard copy and electronic, to determine work procedures. Complete written failure reports on equipment to be stored in the site’s document management system.
- Work with a wide variety of tools. Including hand and power tools and access equipment in installation and repair work. Use larger machine tools such as drill presses and grinders as required. Rigging, hoisting/lifting and moving equipment such as cranes, jacks and powered mobile equipment (PME), manlift are commonly used.
- The work environment is varied and may involve working in extreme or adverse conditions. This may include confined spaces, working at heights, with heavy equipment and around moving equipment. The work often requires considerable standing, kneeling and lifting of materials.
- Act as a safety leader. Comply with all plant environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and procedures. Report hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner
- Ensure a high standard of housekeeping is maintained in all assigned areas
- May be assigned other duties that are equivalent in skill to job requirements
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Millwright/Pipefitter certification or equivalent technical degree for industrial mechanic
- 5 years of professional maintenance / mechanic experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
- Ability to read write and type the English language
- Ability to read and comprehend detailed specifications, including computer graphical user interface and basic math ability
- Employee must successfully complete the Skills Assessment
- Employee must pass a background check and drug screen before employment
- Employee must be willing and able to work 8-hour shifts Monday through Friday including the ability to work overtime and holidays as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Key skills include mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, communication, job planning and organizing and the ability to use trade-related calculations.
- Other preferred qualifications include welding, fabrication and light machine work using a lathe, brake, and other machine shop tools
