Job Description

 

All employees have Environment, Health and Safety roles and responsibilities, and are accountable for achieving compliance with our EHS Policy, including Emergency Preparedness and Response as defined in site-wide documentation.

An I&E Tech Trainee may be required to work a rotating shift schedule, work overtime, and work holidays as business dictates. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, in addition to, duties may be assigned:

  • Starting pay for this role is $29.41 per hour with potential to earn $43.90 per hour.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduits and raceways.
  • Maintains lighting and heat trace systems. Disconnects, reconnects, installs, removes, troubleshoots, and generally maintains motor control, process control, burner control, and electrical distribution devices and systems.
  • Works with low, medium, and high voltage electrical distribution systems including transformers, primary and secondary switchgear, motor control equipment, fuses, breakers, and cabling.
  • Reads and interprets various drawings such as, but not limited to, electrical schematics, conduit schedules, equipment drawings, control drawings, loop sheets, P&ID’s, etc.
  • Understands the NEC and NFPA 70e and can use the book as reference
  • Fabricates and terminates electrical/instrument panels, junction boxes, and cabinetsVerifies proper fuse sizing, disconnect sizing, wiring sizing, and motor sizing per NEC and industry standard.
  • Configures, sets up, and calibrates various pieces of equipment such as, but not limited to, PLC’s, variable frequency drives, power quality systems, overload devices, and others.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.

Required Qualifications

Candidates are expected to successfully pass testing (written) prior to entering the Maintenance Department the Instrumentation & Electrician Trainee will be required to:

  • Complete apprenticeship courses and obtain a passing grade.
  • Complete the required in-shop tasks assigned
  • Meet the required OJT hours as prescribed by the apprentice program
  • Perform the essential functions of the job as determined by the Organization
  • Progress to the level of Instrumentation & Electrician I
