Job Description

Grace has an opening at their Curtis Bay/Baltimore, MD manufacturing site has an opening for an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer who will be report to the Manager, Occupational & Process Safety. As a EHS Engineer, you’ll be responsible for oversight of day-to-day Safety and Health processes, programs, and management systems. You will play an active role in helping to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations as well as Grace corporate requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Execute Process Safety programs in a process facility subject to OSHA 29CFR1910.119. Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals, and EPA Risk Management Plan 40CFR Part 68 Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions, and/or any facility where process safety discipline is warranted under General Duty Clauses.
  • Participate in facilitates Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), incorporating industry best-practice methodologies, and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) studies. Per industry best practices, refines process hazard analysis methodology and tools to ensure PHA's are conducted efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into allegations of safety violations, incidents or unsafe work practices and responds in a timely manner.
  • Under guidance and direction of EHSS management team, maintains action tracking and KPI development for reporting, tracking and implementation of mitigation plans for risk reduction; and recommends engineering controls as solutions to PHAs, RCAs or other projected as requested, and conducts internal EHSS, Facilities, or Risk audits for continuous improvement. Develop update audit protocols as needed.
  • Participate in the Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start Safety Review (PSSR) processes for Curtis Bay for regulatory compliance and adherence to corporate expectations. 
  • Manage and oversee the Curtis Bay Industrial Hygiene Program, including working with external vendors and Certified Industrial Hygienists to assure proper sampling plans and updates to risk assessment methodology.
  • Assist with safety management systems such as Monthly Safety Meeting Guide, Critical Life Safety Administration, Joint Safety Committee,

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in an Engineering discipline with Chemical Engineering highly preferred 
  • 3+ years of experience in Chemical Manufacturing environment to include ESH, operations, and/or maintenance-related activities.
  • Ability to work effectively engage and collaborate with all levels in the organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skilled in HAZOP/What-If, Root Cause, FMEA, Event Tree, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA).
  • Provides consultation to technical resources according to Curtis Bay Business Area to assure the evergreen availability of all Process Safety Information, as defined in OSHA 29CFR1910.119
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities.
  • Ability to lead teams in a manner that encourages collaboration, focus, and energy.
