Job Description

Grace is hiring a Dayshift Operations Supervisor to work at our Curtis Bay/Baltimore, MD Specialty Chemicals manufacturing facility. This role will be dedicated to supporting our Refining Technology (RT) plant and report to the Operations Manager, RT. As the Daytime Operations Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation and safety of the employees during the day and night shift. 

As a Dayshift Operations Supervisor, you will work Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts, 6am-2pm. You may be asked to fill in as a Shift Supervisor, in which case you would be required to work a 12-hour rotating shift (day and/or night shift). Both of these positions may also require you to work holidays and weekends on occasion.  


  • Comply and ensures staff compliance with all environmental, health and safety standards. Identifies and reports or resolves hazards.
  • Comply with all plant production and quality standards.
  • Supervises, coaches and counsel’s operations personnel in the assignment of duties.
  • Assists in training of Operators through collaboration with training department, and ensures all training is up-to-date. 
  • Complete weekly hourly work schedule and overtime signup.
  • Develop and maintain a Housekeeping Program to ensure standards are met..
  • Enter SAP notifications as required for maintenance. Participate in maintenance planning process.
  • Work with Production and Maintenance Planning to ensure availability of equipment and completion of scheduled maintenance activities in a timely manner.
  • Act as a liaison between the Maintenance and Operations dept. to inform them of planned maintenance activities and assist with operations preparations for outages.
  • Develop and oversee a Unit Winterization Program.
  • Work with the Technical Support to evaluate and enhance Preventive Maintenance program and evaluate and develop improvements of “downtime” causation.
  • Support Shift Supervisors by serving as “Gatekeeper” for all planned, Outage and safety related work notifications, as well as Unit related production and autonomous maintenance related supplies and inventories.
  • Updates old and assists in development of new work instructions and “Zero Energy” instructions.
  • Manage project work and/or major overhauls on behalf of the Shift Supervisor.
  • Serves as First Line operational representative on Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA’s) associated with Unit.

Required Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3+ year’s supervisory experience, to include coaching and mentoring staff, conflict management and resolving matters in a positive and proactive manner
  • 3+ years working in a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience in a union environment
  • Demonstrated leadership ability to direct and motivate employees
  • Demonstrated ability to act in a safe manner and teach employees on safety standards
  • Proficient in MS Office and SAP
