Job Description
Contractor Safety Specialist
The Contractor Safety Specialist develops, implements, and oversees safety programs and initiatives aimed at ensuring contractors comply with safety standards, regulations, and organizational policies.
The Specialist monitors contractor activities, conducts safety training, and ensures proper reporting of safety incidents and near misses.
This role is on-site in Curtis Bay, Baltimore, MD and reports to the Environmental, Health, Safety & Security Manager (EHS&S).
Responsibilities
- Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., OSHA, local safety regulations).
- Develop and implement contractor safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Provide safety orientation and training for contractors to ensure they understand company safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct safety audits and inspections of contractors to identify hazards and mitigate risks associated with contractors’ work.
- Maintain and review safety records for contractors, including incident reports, near-misses, and safety audits.
- Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to maintain a high level of safety awareness.
- Ensure contractors have proper safety equipment and resources (PPE, tools, etc.) to perform their jobs safely.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 5+ years of experience in a safety management role
- Experience with OSHA regulations and safety compliance standards.
- Experience assessing and mitigating risks in a construction or industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Occupational Safety & Health, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- Certification in Occupational Safety (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS). Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
