Job Description

WR Grace is a leading Manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals and is seeking a Chemist for the Analytical Services Center at our Baltimore/Curtis Bay, MD Plant. The Chemist leads the laboratory to ensure delivery against metrics and supervises a team of 5-10 technicians. 

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and develops a team of 5-10 technicians
  • Performs chemical analyses and scientific tests using both routine and special techniques in compliance with all safety standards.
  • Responsible and held accountable for compliance with all Critical Life Safety Policies, Environmental, Health and Safety training, policies and procedures. 
  • Active participation in safety programs, along with the ability to work safely and maintain a clean and orderly lab environment
  • Collects, analyzes and processes laboratory samples.
  • Records results of tests, organizes data, performs basic advanced computations, and prepares reports and analyses using standard procedures and guidelines. 
  • Installs, operates, maintains and repairs laboratory test equipment, apparatus, systems and supplies.
  • Provides technical support to customers as applicable by lab area. 
  • Demonstrates a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure analytical data and services meet internal and external customer needs and expectations, including customer visits and audits. 
  • Performs all other duties and assumes other responsibilities, as required.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. or higher in Chemistry or related scientific fields required. 
  • Prior experience in laboratory environment required. 
  • Will typically have at least 3-6 years related technical experience.

  • The ideal candidate will have strong organizational and interpersonal skills with advanced knowledge in chemistry, math, and computers.
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Minitab. Self-direction and the ability to work according to priorities are necessary.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills along with computer experience are important. 
  • Has basic to intermediate skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process.
