Job Description
Capital Projects Manager
The Capital Projects Manager focuses on end-to-end major capital project implementation, partnering with stakeholders to bring maximum value to the business through effective leadership of cost and capital project planning.
They manage multiple improvement projects simultaneously including, piping, structural, safety, mechanical, replacements, refurbishments, building surface, and electrical infrastructure.
The Capital Projects Manager is a member of the Curtis Bay site leadership team. They collaborate with Operations Managers, Engineers and the Grace Corporate Capital Projects Team.
This role is on-site at Curtis Bay, Baltimore MD and reports to the Senior Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Build and lead the project team, motivating them through strong communication and leadership skills with clear decision-making to maintain project flow.
- Drive process improvements, manages special projects and oversees growth of strategic projects.
- Model collaboration through strong partnership with Curtis Bay, Corporate Capital Projects, and Finance teams
- Champion both design and construction safety as a key priority, engaging the EHS&S team throughout the project lifecycle.
- Accountable for fiscal control of the project by developing funding strategy in alignment with execution strategy, managing scope and schedule of the capital projects within the agreed business case, and keeping team focused on execution plan
- Engage with senior executive sponsors, site leadership and other key leaders on development, execution, strategy and resolution of any challenges which arise
- Demonstrate project readiness with upper management and in accordance with required deliverables.
- Maintains clear, timely and accurate project status reports and communicate with key stakeholders
- Communicate and take prompt actions for project issues which may impact project performance.
- Ensure proper documentation and archiving for all work, ensuring appropriate record retention documentation is maintained.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Engineering, Contruction or a related technical field.
- 10+ years in Project Engineering in an Industrial or Manufacturing environment
- 5+ years experience supervising Technical Professionals
- Experience using project management software to control scope, schedule and budget, for example Accolade
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Process Safety Management (PSM) experience
- Experience in managing portfolios with total value in excess of $4M and individual projects greater than $1M.
- Experience in the selection of process equipment such as pumps, vessels, and heat exchangers
Physical Requirements and Environment
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
- Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator.
- Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
- Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
