Job Description

WR Grace is a leading Manufacturer of Specialty Chemicals and is seeking an I&E Technician reporting to the I&E Supervisor at our Curtis Bay plant in Baltimore, MD. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, installing, testing, and repairing low, medium, and high voltage electrical distribution systems, process control systems, motor control systems, electrical infrastructure, and equipment. Knowledgeable in Instrumentation, including Flow meters, Level transmitters, weight systems, Programmable Logic Controllers, Automated control Valves, Burner Management Systems.

 

Schedule: Instrumentation & Electrical Technician may be required to work night shifts, overtime, and holidays as production demands dictate. Personal protective equipment must be worn in most work areas.

 

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrating safe work behaviors, complies with all safety rules, policies and procedures.
  • Maintains timely compliance on all safety, health, environmental, and training initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, other crafts, contractors, production groups, vendors, and OEM suppliers.
  • Disconnects, reconnects, installs, removes, troubleshoots, and generally maintains motor control, process control, burner control, and electrical distribution devices and Instrumentation systems.
  • Works with low, medium, and high voltage electrical distribution systems, including transformers, primary and secondary switchgear, motor control equipment, fuses, breakers, and cabling.
  • Reads and interprets various drawings, such as, but not limited to: electrical schematics, conduit schedules, equipment drawings, control drawings, loop sheets, P&IDs, etc.
  • Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance as required to maintain equipment in optimal condition.
  • Understands the NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, and NFPA 86, and can use the code books as a reference.
  • Maintains substation equipment
  • Configures, sets up, and calibrates various pieces of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Performs general housekeeping and maintains orderliness.
  • Complete all training requirements and regulatory testing and attend safety meetings
  • Assist in the work of other maintenance job groups as assigned.
  • Participates in training initiatives to maintain and improve skills. Assists others with training initiatives
  • Fosters a team environment to ensure efficiency and productivity.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in industrial setting
  • Successful completion of all testing and training requirements to meet the 1st Class Instrumentation & Electrician Technician classification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or related field.
  • Experience in high‑volume or continuous manufacturing environments.
  • Certifications such as; 
      • ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
      •  Journeyman or Master Electrician License
