Job Description

The Oregon plant of W. R. Grace & Co. manufactures fine chemicals for a broad range of pharma, biotech and nutraceutical customers and specialty catalysts for polyolefins and specialty chemicals. We are currently seeking a Specialty Catalyst R&D Chemist to enhance our dynamic team. This position is for an experienced organometallic chemist, with responsibilities in developing synthetic routes to single-site catalyst (SSC) materials and supporting the scale up of these products.

Job Duties Include:

  • Identify inventive aspects of new technology development and work with legal to capture and protect such intellectual property
  • Document and communicate results and conclusions to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work with the process development group to scale-up and commercialize new SSC catalyst technologies and offerings
  • Initiate ideation with co-workers, both within the SC catalyst groups and more broadly within Grace, to grow the company's technology opportunities
  • Engage in technical support activities within the business, balancing efforts to enhance manufacturing operational excellence with new technology growth
  • Align closely with marketing to understand customer needs and provide technical solutions that are economically viable
  • Working with a team of chemists and technicians, develop the synthetic methods needs for new SSC opportunity development
Required Skills
  • Independent technical project management skills required
  • Ability to work as a team with chemist and engineering teams
  • Ability to summarize and present complex technical concepts to non-scientific audiences
  • Demonstrated proficiency in highly air-sensitive chemical manipulations
Required Experience
  • Ph.D. in Organic, Organometallic or Inorganic Chemistry
  • 2 - 5+ years of related experience
  • Experience in organic and organometallic analytical characterization, including specialized techniques for air-sensitive samples
  • Strong background in organic and organometallic synthetic methods
