Job Description

The Oregon plant of W. R. Grace & Co. manufactures fine chemicals for a broad range of pharma, biotech and nutraceutical customers and specialty catalysts for polyefins and speciality chemicals. We are currently seeking a Production Engineer who will report to the Operations Manager to enhance our dynamic team. This position would be accountable for supporting specific plant equipment as it is scheduled to run, in addition to specified chemical processes. Relocation is available to qualified candidates. 


  • Continuously support Supervisors, Operators, Maintenance, and Process Managers to resolve all equipment, process, and chemistry issues being dealt with on the floor.
  • Spend 1-2hrs per day on the floor with operators and supervisors discussing and resolving manufacturing issues.
  • Participate in the morning production meeting, daily maintenance meeting, and weekly maintenance planning meetings.
  • Maintain and update batch standard timelines as needed for tracking progress against manufacturing daily schedule.
  • Primary point of contact for manufacturing issues in assigned area.
  • Maintain P&ID accuracy for assigned area equipment.
  • Determine root cause and make improvement recommendations for manufacturing process excursions and equipment related issues.
  • Provide PLC support to operations i.e. troubleshooting, programming improvement recommendations, HMI improvement recommendations, etc.
  • Complete MOC’s as required for assigned equipment, processes, capital projects, and all "non-in kind" changes in operations.
  • Develop capital project scopes, purchase needed equipment, and execute construction in the field with contractors.
  • Develop procedures for equipment, all solvent / raw material reactor charges, and final product unloading equipment configurations.
  • Participate in PHA's and Hazard Reviews for upcoming chemical processes, equipment changes, and projects, including completion of action items.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering 
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal skills, make data driven decisions and implement recommendations, and learn and use Six Sigma tools to improve plant operations
  • Must have excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational skills, including leading ad hoc teams
  • Must be able to maintain focus on Safety and Environmental in all activities and wear requisite PPE
  • Excellent computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
