Job Description

The Oregon plant of W. R. Grace & Co. is seeking a Process Safety Manager to enhance our dynamic and growing team. The Process Safety Manager will have overall responsibility for managing the Process Safety program and compliance obligations at the Albany, Oregon facility.  Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Process Safety Manager will lead risk assessments, maintain up-to-date process safety information, perform engineering calculations, oversee accountability in the change management process, and collaborate with other members of the site leadership team to champion improvement in the site process safety culture.

 

Job Duties:

  • Lead the site Process Safety program in compliance with OSHA 29CFR 1910.119 Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals, EPA Risk Management Plan 40CFR Part 68, and good industry practices in process safety management
  • Serve as the primary site process safety resource for consultation with site personnel and business team members
  • Provide expert advice in the interpretation and application of Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP) codes and standards
  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) per Grace internal standards and industry best practices.  Recommend appropriate engineering controls and layers of protection for mitigation of event.  Assist the site manager in ensuring all PHA and LOPA recommendations are tracked to closure within the required timelines.
  • Manage the documentation of site process safety information (PSI), in collaboration with other site personnel, to ensure documentation is accurate, accessible, and up-to-date
  • Perform engineering calculations and modeling related to pressure relief system design, consequence analysis, safety instrumented system design, and inherently safer design & safeguard evaluation

Required Skills

  • Subject matter expertise in application of HAZOP/What-If, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, Pressure Relief System Design, or Process Control
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment (leading and participating) with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High level of personal motivation, with a drive for ownership and accountability in performance of job responsibilities
  • Commitment to the highest level of integrity and ethical standards
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels in the organization
  • Periodic travel to the Corporate Headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, and other Grace sites may be required

 

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience, including at least 5 years working in a PSM-covered facility
  • Background in operations, process design, mechanical integrity, and/or process safety
