Job Description

The Process Safety Engineer will have overall responsibility for managing the Process Safety program and compliance obligations at the Albany, Oregon facility.  The Engineer will perform risk assessments, maintain up-to-date process safety information, perform engineering calculations, oversee accountability in the change management process, and collaborate with other members of the site leadership team to champion improvement in the site process safety culture.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) per Grace internal standards and industry best practices
  • Manage the documentation of site process safety information (PSI), in collaboration with other site personnel, to ensure documentation is accurate, accessible, and up-to-date
  • Perform engineering calculations and modeling related to pressure relief system design, consequence analysis, safety instrumented system design, and inherently safer design & safeguard evaluation
  • Ensure the site Mechanical Integrity program, including inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance is conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements, RAGAGEP, and internal standards
  • Steward the site Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes and ensure changes are properly managed and documented in accordance with regulatory requirements and Grace procedures
  • Conduct or participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Incident Investigations per Grace internal standards and industry best practices, and present reports and findings to company leadership
  • Work with the site manager and operations leadership to develop and implement practices to manage process safety risks related to operating discipline and conduct of operations
  • Track process safety metrics relevant to site operations to drive improvements in process safety practices and culture
  • Provide training for all site employees to understand process safety as a discipline, regulatory obligations, and individual & group responsibilities related to process safety

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years industry experience, including at least 1 year working in a PSM-covered facility
  • Background in operations, process design, mechanical integrity, and/or process safety
  • Subject matter expertise in application of HAZOP/What-If, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Root Cause Analysis, Management of Change, Pressure Relief System Design, or Process Control
