Job Description

The Oregon plant of W. R. Grace & Co. manufactures fine chemicals for a broad range of pharma, biotech and nutraceutical customers and specialty catalysts for polyefins and specialty chemicals. We are currently seeking a Process Manager to enhance our dynamic team. This position is responsible for managing all aspects of custom manufacturing projects from inception to shipment of finished product.

Responsibilities

  • Project planning and implementation
  • Schedule for delivery of raw materials
  • Generate batch records for manufacture of products
  • Shepherd projects through the plant by working with R & D, Quality Control and Manufacturing to ensure in-specification product is manufactured in a timely manner
  • Provide process development guidance to R&D, and perform pre- and post- project review and analysis
  • Support QA with production cGMP tasks, as necessary
  • Interface with operations to further develop process capabilities and meet equipment needs in support of manufacturing
  • Work with EHS/PSM departments and the operators to identify hazards associated with processes and materials, and propose acceptable corrective actions
  • Manage production processes in SAP
  • Evaluate past production batches and/or developmental information from R&D to generate bills of material and overall cost estimates
  • Provide lead times and targeted manufacturing costs for requested custom products to sales and marketing group
  • Participate in planning meetings and provide internal project updates as needed
  • Interface with customers, as appropriate, to provide regular project updates and confirm technical specifications for the process and/or product
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and productivity within projects and help implement improvements
  • Participate in internal audits
  • On call availability during off hours for any questions regarding current projects

Required Qualifications

Skills:

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Good computer skills specifically Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Competent using SAP
  • Professionally handle adverse situations when projects are not progressing as desired
  • Continuous mental and/or visual attention
  • Ability to interact and work effectively with all levels of the organization as well as customers

 

Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with minimum of 5 years practical experience at a manufacturing facility
  • Experience operating with cGMP principles and/or a pharmaceutical environment required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management experience preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of organic chemistry preferred. 
  • Experience operating with cGMP principles preferred.
  • 10 years plant experience in a manufacturing facility considered in lieu of formal education
