Job Description

W. R. Grace & Co. is hiring a Method Developing Chemist to work at our Albany, OR plant where we manufacture fine chemicals for a broad range of pharma, biotech and nutraceutical customers and specialty catalysts for polyefins and specialty chemicals. This position will support the Quality Control Department through the development and the validation of new analytical methods, as well as the continuous improvement of current processes/analyses.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop/Optimize methods – Under the guidance of the QC Manager, propose, develop, and optimize analytical methods to meet specific analytical needs to support product development for new and existing products and customers. 
  • Validate/Transfer methods – As needed, validate and/or transfer both customer-provided and in-house analytical methods, including protocol and report writing per ICH guidelines.
  • Actively participate in analytical investigations of non-conformance and out-of-trend results.
  • Participate in departmental audits and assist in developing SOPs for continuous improvement plans.
  • Perform statistical analysis including trend analysis of critical product testing
  • Evaluate current methods for consistency and robustness
  • Ensure all proper operation of existing and new analytical equipment

Required Skills

  • Must be knowledgeable with chromatography systems (HPLC, GC, etc.) and other analytical instruments (such as, NMR, IR, Malvern, SEM, ICP, titrator, KF, etc.)
  • Understand regulatory requirements (e.g., ICH, FDA)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Manually dexterous
  • Maintain a clean laboratory environment
  • Fluent with standard software platforms (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Troubleshooting skills for analytical instruments and problem solving skills
  • Positive teamwork and excellent listening skills

Required Experience

  • Master’s Degree in analytical chemistry or equivalent practical experience. 
  • Experience in chromatographic method development and optimization.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and be fluent with standard computer software platforms.
  • 5+ years of related experience in the chemical industry dealing with analytical method development in a fine chemicals or pharmaceutical industry, including GMP-lab experience.
