Job Description

W.R. Grace has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental EHS Specialist to join our dynamic team located in Albany Oregon. At our Albany Site, we manufacture complex organic building blocks for the pharmaceutical industry, as well as single site catalyst for the plastics industries. We handle a wide range of chemical raw materials and intermediates, requiring an effective and efficient Environmental Program.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring site compliance calendar remains up to date with all required reporting to outside agencies completed as scheduled.
  • Overall management of site environmental compliance and performance with respect to Federal and State environmental regulations.
  • Interacting with plant personnel, as well as EHS experts and professionals who support Grace’s North American sites and businesses.
  • Lead, coordinate, implement, and support the site’s environmental programs.
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance to site employees to ensure compliance, safe work practices and continuous improvement of environmental programs.
  • Collect and maintain data for monthly, quarterly and annual environmental regulatory reporting.
  • Review new chemicals for environmental concerns. Provide proper documentation and training to meet environmental requirements.
  • Meet with facility departments on a regular basis to review and discuss environmental improvements, recent incidents, and corrective actions being implemented.
  • Conduct environmental audits, identify areas for improvement, and work with site leaders to continuously improve environmental performance.
  • Participate in capital project reviews to ensure equipment installations meet environmental requirements.
  • Investigate environmental related incidents and near misses using root cause analysis.   
  • Lead and support corrective actions identified during incident investigations, facility audits, and discussions with employees. 
  • Along with other EHS specialists, ensure emergency planning and emergency response procedures are in place and up to date.
  • Ensure all Health and Safety policies, procedures and instructions are well understood and up to date.
  • When applicable, interface with regulatory agencies to prepare required permit applications and renewals
  • Conduct environmental related equipment inspections.  Ensure equipment is maintained and operating at appropriate levels.
  • Lead development of environmental training materials and lead/facilitate emergency response training for the site.

Required Qualifications

  • Up-to-date knowledge of health and safety laws and regulatory requirements, including Federal and State OSHA regulations.  Ability to interpret regulations.
  • B.S. in Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or other equivalent EHS related fields.
  • 5-7 years’ experience working as an EHS professional.
  • Minimum of 2 years process safety experience either as an EHS professional or in a role requiring detailed knowledge of process safety requirements.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment systems
  • Knowledge of air emission requirements with ability to calculate emission rates
