Job Description

The primary function of this position is to support and enhance Grace's technical leadership for the Specialty Catalysts business.  This position is responsible for:

  • Developing new catalysts through participation in R&D team efforts;
  • Coordinating scale up and validation of new catalysts; facilitate technology transfer from lab/pilot plant to commercial units.
  • Providing manufacturing support for commercial catalysts;
  • Participating in the introduction of new R&D projects and in their advancement through the product development introduction process;
  • Providing recommendations for specifications that balance product performance and plant manufacturing capability for that product;
  • Communicating effectively to sales/marketing, research/development, and manufacturing personnel;
  • Conducting catalyst and polymer  testing and reporting results to internal and external customers;
  • Supports sales and marketing by providing timely data and technical information;
  • Supervising support staff in designing experiments, building databases, and providing samples for pilot plant testing;
  • Providing leadership for safety programs and product stewardship

Required Skills

B.S. in Chemical Engineering, advanced degree preferred

Good oral and written communication skills

Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering

High initiative and ability to learn

Ability to deal face-to-face with customers

Ability to drive projects to completion, on budget and on time

Team player

Good administrative skills (handling of a large number of simultaneous assignments and meeting deadlines)

Preferred Qualifications

Strong project management skills, track record of successful process commercialization a plus

Plant experience and experience with organometallic compounds a plus

Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt preferred
