We’re hiring a Warehouse and Distribution Manager, North America, based in Columbia, MD who will report to the Senior Manager, North America Logistics & Warehousing. The Warehouse and Distribution Manager, North America will be responsible for managing all Grace warehouse and distribution operations along with 3rd party relationships and outside warehouse and distribution centers in North America. The Warehouse and Distribution Manager will provide leadership direction to enable on-time shipments and ensure delivery of high quality products to meet customer needs in a safe and efficient manner, optimizing cost and value-added return. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supports Grace’s safety culture by demonstrating leadership as it strives to achieve an accident-free environment; Oversee and monitor safety and security for the facility and for our employees. Ensure proper training is conducted.
  • Analyzes key metrics for each assigned distribution center and ensures established goals are met in the areas of performance, quality, safety, customer satisfaction and budgetary plan.
  • Drives performance improvement and measures through the use and interpretation of Continuous Improvement.
  • Responsible for all logistics processes from the receipt to shipment of all finished goods, utilizing Grace systems and achieving established performance metrics.
  • Works with 4PL to lead the establishment of all new 3rd party warehouse/storage locations, contract negotiations and applicable SAP integration.
  • Achieve distribution performance measures established by customers and corporate logistics Center of Excellence and distribute monthly to areas of responsibility.
  • Provides strategic oversight and guides teams to identify, recommend and implement changes to improve productivity and reduce cost.
  • Oversees and evaluates equipment & facilities maintenance program to ensure quality as well as operational efficiency; works with Procurement to negotiate cost and service.
  • Audits regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
  • Leads staff and manages warehousing and distribution processes for 15+ warehouses, distribution, and transload points across North America. 
  • Manages employee performance and assists employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring including managing the process for successful completion of Individual Development Plans for each employee. Recommends, plans and/or implements employee training and skill development activities.
  • Makes employment decisions and/or recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations and pay adjustments.
  • Travel is expected to be 40-50%.

Required Skills

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills
  • In-depth understanding of distribution technical skills including equipment knowledge, facility layout, handling methods and procedures and inventory management.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer service and/or distribution processes background along with exceptional analytical skills.
  • Broad understanding of general business with emphasis on logistics, distribution and customer service issues.
  • Ability to write concise operation reports with appropriate supporting graphical and presentation exhibits.
  • Demonstrates the ability to coordinate multiple priorities and developed effective solutions.

Required Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Engineering or related.
  • 7-10 years' experience in warehouse management or manufacturing operations to include supervisory experience (coaching and development of staff), developing and monitoring metrics and KPI, and experience with optimizing warehouse and distribution productivity by implementing process improvements.   
  • Strong analytical skills to include proficiency in Excel.
  • Must have experience with ERP, SAP highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six sigma.
  • Experience working in a union environment.
