Job Description

The Process Innovation Center (PIC) serves as a technology bridge between new product ideas and full-scale manufacturing. The PIC team works in close partnership with global manufacturing sites across all Grace product lines to deliver process engineering and operational expertise, leveraging a world-class pilot plant for: new product scale-up; step-out productivity through new technology exploration; enhanced quality, capacity, and sustainability; and production of new product prototypes. The team also supplies critical insight and data needed for capital engineering designs prior to full-scale manufacturing. The skills and experiences from the PIC provide the framework for an endless set of growth opportunities within Grace including in operations, quality, R&D, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently conduct pilot plant experiments; Focus on process safety with priority on Critical Life Safety policies. May provide manufacturing support during trials or generation of prototypes for testing.
  • Learn equipment and processes for making products in a high-paced manufacturing environment. Understand chemical processes within specific product lines and drive improvements.
  • Properly select, set up, and operate pilot plant equipment for production of various materials – maintain equipment and recognize deviation from usual operation, adjusting parameters as necessary to maintain safe operations, in-spec product quality, and high productivity.
  • Establish mechanical acumen working with pilot plant equipment, including troubleshooting. Input maintenance notifications, prepare equipment for maintenance work, and ensure required safe work permits are completed.
  • Build experience in documenting experimental results, organizing data, performing basic computations, and utilizing software tools including Microsoft applications and Minitab to prepare reports and analyses.

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Required to frequently handle hazardous materials. Must comply with all applicable environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and policies. Must actively participate in site safety program and complete all required trainings/certifications. Required to report hazards, deviations, and incidents in a timely manner.
  • Occasionally required to work flexible shifts, rotating shifts, weekends, and evenings. May occasionally be required to travel to other Grace sites or vendors. Must maintain flexibility in scheduling and collaborate with coworkers to foster a safe, engaged, productive environment.
  • While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb multiple levels of stairs and be physically capable of regularly lifting/moving up to 50 pounds.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrates strong commitment to safety.
  • High School diploma with at least 5 years of relevant manufacturing, laboratory, or skilled trade experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates degree or two years of college with technical course work.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry, math, engineering principles, and the scientific method.
  • Self-directed and able to work both independently and collaboratively according to priorities. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills along with experience navigating basic computer software.
  • Strong organizational skills.
