Job Description

Grace is hiring a Logistics Manager, N. America to join our Supply Chain COE based at our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD.  As a Logistics Manager, you will report to the Director, Logistics & Distribution and be responsible for the domestic ‘Over the Road’ (OTR) transportation operation (TL, LTL, Bulk) in the US. You will provide leadership support within a matrixed organization to achieve safety, service, quality, and cost goals while driving an enhanced customer experience.

 


Working from our corporate headquarters in Columbia, MD, you will have the option of working a hybrid schedule (3 days in the office). In addition, you must be able to travel up to 10-15% domestically. 

Responsibilities

  • Utilizing your supply chain systems knowledge, assess current supply chain systems and technology, and identify industry best practices to simplify, improve productivity, and enable world-class OTR transportation execution.
  • Build effective cross-functional relationships across the organization (Sales, Finance, Legal, Supply Management, Order Management, Warehouse/Distribution, Product Management, Quality and Operations) to improve service execution, productivity, and reduce cost. 
  • Build and maintain carrier relationships through partnership and fair treatment
  • Lead transportation-related projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely execution and alignment with company goals.
  • Use data to help drive business results and improve the customer experience.
  • Daily interaction with carriers, warehouses, TMS partners, internal stakeholders and external customers regarding transportation service execution, quality, safety, and cost
  • Create, implement, and analyze industry metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the domestic transportation network. 
  • Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), SAP and data analytics tools to gather insights and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Report on carrier service levels and provide insights to the management team regarding performance, customer expectations, and potential issues.
  • Optimize carrier selection and routing guide based on service levels and pricing.
  • Establish and deliver against goals in the areas of performance, quality, safety, customer satisfaction, reporting, and budget adherence.
  • Establish a regular audit plan to ensure compliance with Grace’s Responsible Care Management System (RCMS).
  • Play a key role in managing Grace’s partnership with Odyssey Logistics and carrier partners.  
  • Develop the OTR transportation strategy to optimize all goods movements between Grace plants and shipments to customers with a focus on on-time delivery and lowest landed cost.

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree, Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or Engineering
  • 7-10 years of distribution, logistics or transportation operations, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Transportation Management experience in Truckload, LTL, Bulk (Liquid and Dry), chemical shipments, including TMS systems experience
  • Experience working with 3PL/4PL providers with strong relationship building and negotiation skills 
  • Chemical/Hazmat shipper experience 
  • SAP, or another ERP and Microsoft Office Suite experience with deep knowledge of Excel
  • Strong communication skills effective to a variety of audiences
  • Ownership mentality in finding solutions and taking initiative
  • Curiosity about how processes work and can ask the right questions
  • Adaptability to change and is willing to keep up to date with the trends and issues of the supply chain industry
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills; strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; exceptional analytical skills
  • Broad understanding of general business with emphasis on logistics, warehousing, and customer service issues
  • Ability to write concise operational reports and give effective presentations
  • Ability to coordinate multiple priorities and develop effective solutions in matrix environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Yard Management System (YMS) 
  • Hazmat certification 
  • Freight Forwarding, Import/Export Operations, International Trade Compliance, Trade Risk Management
  • Transportation Management experience in Rail, Ocean, Air, Parcel
  • Sourcing & Contract Negotiation
  • Process development and documentation
  • KPI Development and Management experience
  • Prior experience with Freight Audit & Payment process
  • Dry bulk shipping experience
