Job Description

Grace is hiring a Chemical/Warehouse Operator at our Curtis Bay site.  Operators are responsible for knowing the basic equipment and process operation; handle, store, and transport chemical material(s); operate, monitor, and control continuous and batch processes; troubleshoot the process; provide routine minor maintenance to process equipment and instrumentation. Operators will be required to work a rotating shift schedule, and work overtime and holidays as production demands dictate. All employees at the Curtis Bay Site have environmental, health and safety roles and responsibilities and are accountable for achieving compliance with our EHS Policy including emergency preparedness and response as defined in site-wide and local area documentation

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all plant environmental, health, safety, and process safety standards and procedures.  Report hazards, deviations, and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Respond to emergency situations, including emergency shutdowns.
  • Foster a team environment to ensure efficiency, productivity and profitability within their scope of control.
  • Operate extruders, related dryers and calciners, all related conveyors, and operate SCR Unit, and operate forklift
  • Perform solution make ups.
  • Obtain silo measurements and utility readings.
  • Communicate job status to incoming relief.
  • Follow daily work instructions.
  • Operate the process using field controls.
  • Sample, control, and maintain plant quality through SPC, plant instrumentation, and interacting with the GLIMS system
  • Material movement. (Loading/unloading trucks, staging, etc...)
  • Complete plant data sheets, environmental emission reports, inventory sheets, forklift
  • Perform required housekeeping and maintain orderliness.
  • Complete all regulatory testing and attend safety meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements and Environment

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a laboratory environment with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and standards working in a pilot plant facility with highly hazardous materials
  • Ability to work in a high hazard environment, including adverse weather conditions, elevated spaces, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, and noisy surroundings.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs and ladders over 100 ft.
  • Must be willing to wear PPE (Personal Protective equipment) including but not limited to hard hat, protective eyewear, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, Level A suit, full face respirator

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or equivalent combination of education and directly related on the job experience.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 55 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee might occasionally be required to measure silos which could involve stairs or ladders.
  • Work with the shift supervisor, coordinator, and other operators to operate the plant. Coordinate finished product loading with the Warehouse Operator.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Forklift license
  • Employee must successfully complete all applicable Operator Assessment test and plant training requirements including Honeywell assessement.
